Barbaro We miss you and rest in peace

strange that character and courage, measured by traces in men, was found in volumes in a horse.

You were the greatest champion with a heart of gold.
We will remember you forever.
I can never watch a race now without thinking of how you ran like a champion. So sorry that you did not get enough rest after your first race in that triple crown. But the people will always love you.

Hope you are galloping round the big race track in the sky with my pony, Flash R.I.P. A true champion with a heart of gold

My precious Barbaro you don't know how much I miss you. May Nicanor and your new baby brother continue your legacy.

I wish you many happy gallops in heaven Barbaro. Enjoy your peace boy. Thank you for everything you have done. You are a true hero.

And Monica, Barbaro's injury had nothing to do with rest. Michael Matz wouldn't have ran him in the Preakness if he wasn't 100%. He was ready for the race. It was just an unfortunate accident. Don't place blame in the wrong place.

Astounding what you accomplished; unknown what you might have.

Stephanie
I read many articles by prominent and educated horse race and horse breeders that say the same thing.
The secone race in the triple crown is too soon after the first one. Many horse trainers will not enter their horses for that reason. Too many wealthy people want the race sheduled early so that they can make it to their summer homes for the upcoming wkend holiday. Please -- I am a animal lover and would not make statements without reading and research it, so I say again the second race was too soon for Barbarp who is and always will be to all of us who recognized how hard he worked just to plese.
I love you Barbaro and will never forget you. REST in peace now Barbaro.

It's been debated for a long time: Are the Triple Crown races too close together? Consider: We had eight winners between 1930 and 1948 with three from 1930 to 1935 and five from 1941 through 1948. Then, three again between 1973 and 1978. Why have so many conquered the Derby and Preakness only to often lose the Belmont by less than a length? Who knows. That special horse hasn't come along again yet, but I think Barbaro would have been crowned. As I'd read or heard, Michael Matz didn't train Barbaro with the Kentucky Derby as the ultimate goal; the ultimate was the Belmont.

Thank you for your comments about the debate; the fact that a debate goes on about this is the very reason that humane people who love these wonderfull horses should give more thought to what they are demanding of them. The horses love to run -- yes -- but they give their "everything" including life for it just to please. I still think of Barbaro so much as he was just so very special that he made all of us stop and look for that supreme, shining moment. I still stop to look at his pictures and wish that he was still here.
What could have been?
